The Mayor of Kutaisi, Giorgi Tevdoradze congratulated Kutaisi citizen Verichka Basiladze on her 100th birthday wishing her happiness and health. The Mayor gave Verichka Basiladze New Year presents and GEL300 as a birthday gift. Verichka Basiladze is the 9th of Kutaisi citizens to have reached this age. She has 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and even one great great grandchild. She thanked the officials for great attention toward her.

Traditional Christmas “alilo” (caroler’s march) blessed by Calistratos, Metropolitan of Kutaisi and Gelati started from the City Hall. The Mayor of Kutaisi and the Chairman of City Council congratulated the participants of the event and gave out Christmas presents and sweets. Christmas Carrols were heard in nearly all the central streets of the city and eagerly joint by the citizens. All the collected gifts and sweets were donated to nursing homes and homes for the disabled

Kutaisi City Hall organized numerous New Year events in an old but already reconstructed part of Kutaisi. Many local performers took part in concerts and performances including some kids’ dance and song groups, national ensembles “Bermukha” and “Nainai” and the folk theatre group of “Berikas”. New Year events ended by making a huge “gozinaki” (traditional Georgian sweet made of nuts and honey).

A 12-year old citizen of Kutaisi Giorgi Sulakvelidze received a computer from the President of Georgia as a New Year gift. Giorgi is from socially vulnerable family consisting of 7 members. Giorgi Tevdoradze, Mayor of Kutaisi visited Giorgi’s family and delivered the computer with some other New Year presents and sweets

The presentation of the new website of the local government was organized in the white hall of Kutaisi City Hall by the head of administration. Kutaisi citizens can easily get information on government resolutions and decisions displayed on the site. The website “Kutaisi.gov.ge” offers many interesting and useful links. Giorgi Tevdoradze, the Mayor of Kutaisi greeted the representatives of NGO-s and journalists attending the presentation and thanked the department of public relations for assistance.

Honey-making specialists from all regions of Georgia took part in the Georgian Bee Festival which was held in Kutaisi and sponsored by Kutaisi Mayor and the Association of Georgian Professional Bee-keepers. Different types of honey, bees’ milk, bee poison, beeswax and apicultural implements were exhibited there.

Giorgi Tevdoradze, Mayor of Kutaisi attended the launching of new cement plant in Kutaisi. He was shown a cement producing process. 230 citizens are employed for the plant with average monthly salary of GEL 500. The plant will supply the local market with high quality product the quantity of which is going to be increased in the nearest future.

A new textile factory is to be launched in Kutaisi free industrial zone. The factory is equipped with new technological appliances from Egypt. Mayor of Kutaisi Giorgi Tevdoradze visited Egyptian company “K.J.M.” which will produce goods like blankets and mattresses for export in the Near East and Africa. The number of employees for the company will rise from 150 women at the initial stage to 500.

The Mayor of Kutaisi, Giorgi Tevdoradze held a meeting with foreign guests on the project of tourism development. The EU sponsored project is aimed at further development of relationship between the cities Ungen, Moldova, Province of Venice, Italy and Kutaisi, Georgia. Giorgi Tevdoradze made a speech on the cultural and historical importance of Kutaisi and future plans. He stressed the importance of such projects for the development of Kutaisi and Imereti region in general. The guests expressed their belief that Georgia’s culture and fascinating history can be very attractive for tourists

The Mayor of Kutaisi Giorgi Tevdoradze, the Head of the City Council Amiran Khvadagiani and other local officials held a meeting with Trish Blair, the founder and president of “A Call To Serve International” (ACTS International, Missouri, USA) – an international relief agency in the white hall of the City Hall.
